I’m reminded of the quote by Percy Shelley: “Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.” This sentiment applies to all the arts, of course; art is where people get their ideas and their conception of what is true and worthwhile, much more so than the political realm. (Thanks for including that John Adams quote—I heard it years ago and have been trying to track down its source!)
